It is a rather complicated affair to change the digitizer. If you are not savy enough you could end up damaging something else.

So I dropped my phone yesterday and the impact was on the top left corner of the phone. I picked it up thinking all is good (since it was only about a foot drop onto tile) only to see the spider web of a shattered screen! The phone works perfectly fine so does that mean it's the digitizer/touch screen only? It looks like it'll cost about $50-$60 for a new screen if that's the case. Has anyone had this happen? Is it difficult to open the phone up?I'm eligible for an upgrade and considering the HTC One or the Nexus 4 but saving the HD is my first option.

I agree with Rob - things like replacing a shattered screen are not somrthing you do casually. Unless you know what you're doing and feel confident with your skills *I* wouldn't attempt to do it. You can cause all *kinds* of problems trying that.

yeah I was bit hesitant to try this. I found a good youtube video for the HD showing step by step on how to do it. I'm worried about damaging the LCD or one of the cables.
I'm going to bite the bullet and give it a shot. The key is being very careful with the prying tools. I found a digitizer on ebay for less than $50 and adhesive frame for $9. The tools were $22 from Amazon (which I can use for any other tech equipment).
Let us know how it goes.![]()

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see all my orders came in today. I wasn't expecting the digitizer until next week. I found an excellent YouTube video on replacing the digitizer for the atrix hd. I pulled it up on my iPad and followed along. My digitizer replacement was a success! Took me about 40 mins or so because I had a hard time putting the adhesive around the frame. I was going to take photos of the process but the YouTube video is all you need. You just need to be careful when prying the back cover off because there is some adhesive that holds it to the battery. A T5 screwdriver and a couple of prying tools is all you need. Here is a link to the video:YouTube phone will be in a case from now on.
Glad to hear it went well, thanks for posting your results.![]()
