Motorola Atrix Gets CyanogenMod 7 Pre-Beta Release

If you are a Motorola Atrix user and you like to customize your experiences to the degree of rooting, then you will be pleased to know that there is a CyanogenMod 7 pre-beta release for the Atrix now. Because of its "pre-beta" status there are a number of things that are still not working yet, like the Bluetooth and camera (and anything else not mentioned in the following list), but here are the things that are working:
    • 2G/3G/H+
    • Calls and SMS
    • Wi-Fi
    • Audio
    • USB
    • GPS
    • Display
    • Touchscreen
    • Battery stats
    • Proximity sensor
    • Screen orientation
    • Internal storage and external SD card
    • Multimedia playback (videos, music)
If you are okay with these issues and want to try it, make sure you realize you do so at your own risk, and backup your current ROM. The video above shows off what the CM7 looks like on the Atrix. Below are some source links that give you instructions and downloads. Also, let us know in the forums how it went, and how you like it.

Cool! CM 7 isn't my cup of tea as far as roms go, but it's important that we get some of these "mainline roms" ported over to the Atrix platform. It increases our profile and hopefully will lead to other big names writing for the Atrix.

Likely because the same ROM has been ported to almost every possible phone that can load it, and an OEM has actually looked at having it preloaded on a new handset.

If you go on forums like XDA Developers Forum or Droid Forums - forums with multiple platform support - in a majority of the platforms, you'll find Cyanogen. It's sort of like herpes...it's EVERYWHERE. It's also widely copied, and used as a base for new rom development by new developers (copying what works), and I know that WERA absolutely *loves* it.

Seriously, to answer your question, Cyanogenmod is like Walmart (a place I refuse to set foot in, let alone spend my money at), they're on every street corner, and if Koush writes programs for the Atrix, we're in the big time.

For the Nexus One, CM 7 (or the early ones too) was AWESOME with a capital AWE.

It had everything from the standard built for that phone plus a TON more features. I honestly don't know how they packed to much extra stuff into basically the same space.

I'm not sure that the bonus will be as clear with the Atrix, but it's nice to see the choices.

I think a release candidate will make it better for me. The pre-beta really wasn't good for me. I'm sure there are those that just love it, as I said before, my battery was draining too fast. Not fun.

I think CM is overrated but it is nice to see progress being made on it.

    Done with this.

Once again, my experience was on the Nexus One. But I was getting better than stock battery life. Particularly with SetCPU (which does not see to work properly on the Atrix, wish it did).
