Doesn't surprise me, I've already given up on Motorola and ordered the nexus 4,. It'd be nice to still get ICS on my atrix but it seems like Motorola keeps telling us something and then changing their minds.
I really do like moto phones its just the people who run the company and push the updates at this point that is making me leave.

Ghost, you made an EXCELLENT choice - the Nexus 4 is (like all of the GSM Nexus line) a super phone! You won't regret getting a Pure Google Phone.

I'd like to try a nexus too but am really put off by Google's update policy: http://www.phonenews.com/google-conf...te-list-21847/

Maybe a Ubuntu phone is the answer

You have a problem with Google admitting that two 2010 devices that have been upgraded through quite a few major Android OS changes can no longer be updated because the OS requirements have apparently passed them by? Two years is a better track record than every other Android device manufacturer on the planet, and definitely more so than the major carriers, and every device ultimately reaches the point where it just can't be pushed any further, so I honestly fail to see why they've earned a place on your crap list.

Well look at Apple's update policy and my Blackberry Bold which i had more than 3 years was updated during that time always to the newest OS version.
My 2007 laptop is still able to run the newest Ubuntu builds.

I hate this "throw it away" mentality

Re: Motorola Backtracks; The Atrix 4G Will Not Receive Ice Cream Sandwich After All

I'm having a hard time seeing how it's a "throw it away mentality"; just because it's passed its update life, doesn't mean the phone is now useless. The fact the Nexus series also gets updates immediately makes them very enticing with the two year window. You wait how many extra months for a manufacturer to add their bloatware and UI to the phone, test it, release it, etc.?

Two years is more than the Atrix received, and more than most Android phones.
My Atrix has been great with the updates I've received thus far, and could continue to keep me happy for another two years.

I think the Nexus line and the Nexus 4 is a great future-proof route to go. Of course that's provided the build quality can last that long... Though, they've all seemed like solid devices.
