just discovered new simplest method to root Bell Atrix on 2.3.4!!

    Hi,

I'd been reviewing the methods to re-root my Atrix (Bell, Toronto) after applying the Gingerbread update 2.3.4
Quite frankly, I was overwhelmed, not an android expert by any means, and not real confident about typing out
lines of script in a command prompt on a shaky vista pc, especially since last time I rooted on Froyo was so easy
with Gingerbreak v1.2. Anywaaaaay, came across this method tonight:

    Pete's Motorola Root Tools

and saw a sidebar on one forum that said "reportedly works on Atrix too, but I haven't tried it."

For me it was roll the dice on a one click method, or tolerate Bell/Moto bloat, as I was afraid of xda/briefmobile methods...
long story short, I was re-rooted in 10 min, reinstalled root checker, check!, root explorer, and titanium backup, and am in
the process of freezing out bloat now.

    Great find!

I was trying to find confirmation on it earlier, but couldn't. Thanks for posting!

just tried on my Bell Atrix and had some issues. Seems to be caused by being previously rooted. I followed the clean up suggestions posted on the web link and all worked fine after a second attempt.

Hi, I'm new to Android and I'm about to attempt to root my Atrix, but I have a few questions that need answering before I try and root. If I root my phone using this method, will it prevent me from receiving OTA updates in the future, and if so, is there any way to unroot my phone, and return it to a state where I will be able to install any new OTA updates from Motorola?

Edit: After opening Pete's Motorola Root Tools, I noticed the button to unroot your phone, but is it thorough enough to allow for OTA updates again?

    Hi and welcome.

As far as I know, this method will not effect OTA updates even if you remain rooted. The unroot should remove all traces.

It's usually only the changes that you make to your phone AFTER rooting that would interfere with updates.

Been reticent about rooting my Atrix, but this is definitely food for thought once my warranty expires.

I registered only to mention that this worked for me!

I did the "How To Root: One-Click for Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server" section and it only took about 2 minutes!

    Thanks!
