Well, LOL, I work for a Wireless Internet Service Provider. We order Cat5E in 1000ft boxes, 20 boxes at a time. We run Cat5E (and sometimes Cat6) from the antenna to an PoE injector and then a patch cable comes out of the PoE injector and in to the router or computer. So we don't order HDMI cable from them, and we don't even order Cat5E from them anymore. We order it direct from another manufacturer, which turns out to be cheaper than from Monoprice.

The 100ft HDMI cable I was referring to ran from one end of the house to the other.

lol, that's a lot of cable.

But why would you want to run an hdmi cable from one end of a house to the other?

With Dish Network (or DTV) they have dual output recievers, one HDMI and one standard definition port. We put the box in a room with a standard definition TV and ran the HDMI cable to a HD tv in another room.

While the HDMI spec does not mention a length, it *does* mention signal degradation. Did that cable mention any compliance testing? Longest cable I've heard of with legit compliance was 50' and that was the older 1.2 spec. It would not pass the current 1.3 spec. Bear in mind this is a specially constructed cable that has individual coax-style shielded conductors - not a "normal" cable. What happens is the cumulative capacitance and inductance of the wire attenuates the high frequencies and results in a degraded signal. Contrast and definition suffers. Boosting the signal has NO effect on this sort of degradation. Boosting the signal is to overcome attenuation and reduce "ghost" (reflected) signals that can cause fringing and other video artifacts but in no other way alters the physics of the signal.
