Need an app to convert PNG to JPG

Any suggestions? I tried MediaConverter but it never finishes the conversion. I'd like to be able to do this on my phone instead of moving the pics to my PC.

Tapped with my Rooted Unlocked Atrix running CM7 (and still trying to figure all this out!)

I have not tried it myself but a quick search on the market of 'file converter" brought up File Converter who has very good reviews and cover many formats. The free tryout version has very poor reviews but the paid version has very good reviews. The question would be if you are willing to pay the $4+ dollars for it. You always have 15 minutes for the refund.

Honestly, I don't bother with in-phone solutions. I find it much faster and easier to copy the files to my PC or notebook, work on them there, then copy them back, mainly because the tools available on a PC are generally going to be far superior to what you'll find for a phone. To that end, the free IrfanView image viewer/converter for Windows has been my go-to app for many, many years. Supports dozens of graphics formats and has lots of features, including very flexible batch conversion capabilities.

If you have the png on your PC, simply rename it. By that I mean change MyCat.png to MyCat.jpg - that's all it takes. My laptop will issue a warning that changing it can make the png/jpg unstable (it doesn't) but it will then go ahead and make the change and you're good to go.

Hey UltraDroid can I do that on my phone too...with root explorer? My whole goal is to be able to post screenshots on xda which only allows full size if its a jpg.

I'd be careful about simply renaming the file. Sure, the OS will still display it just fine, but it doesn't change the actual format (and they are definitely different). If xda looks at the format instead of just relying on the extension, it will still be rejected. Just FYI.

The scenario that I outlined was having the picture on my PC and changing the spelling of png to jpg. As Martin points out that may not change the nature of the picture, but many of the wallpapers I posted started out as PNGs and I think if you download them to your PC and right click on them they'll say they are JPGs rather than PNGs. I'm not sure how you'd go about using that formula on these phones however, so you're probably better using an app to do the conversion.

Good tip! I'm on CM7 now and have switched to the built in screen capture. I'll go back to screen grabber and use that.
