    Screen Filter by Haxor Industry.

Last night I was casually going through my phone in bed when finally I just couldn't stand how bright my phone was. The dimmest setting itself is blinding in the middle of the night.
In an effort to find a solution on the Market, I came across Screen Filter by Haxor Industry.
This app was a God send. It enabled me to dim down my screen to the a setting I wanted.

You can tell the difference even in the screenshots. The first is my screen set to automatic brightness with the Screen Filter turned on. The second with Screen Filter turned off.

Another nifty feature is the ability to disable the soft-key backlight as well.
The default setting for brightness is set to 48.6 percent. I personally like it set to 38.4 as you can see on the widget set on my homescreen.

The settings to the application are set when adding the widget to your homescreen. Clicking on the application in your app drawer itself will turn on the filter to the default setting of 48.6 percent.

This app is definitely on my top ten to have and so I thought worthy to share. I can use my phone at night knowing I won't be blinded or disturbing my wife while she sleeps.
    stalemate and das8nt like this.

There are factory sittings in the Atrix to change the brightness on the device. There is also an auto feature were the device sets itself depending in light conditions.

Yes, that's true. But like I said, the dimmest setting for me is still too bright. Even setting it to automatically dim. Go SMS Pro has a Night Mode setting that dims just for the messaging app, and it works well. That's what I was looking for to work on the phone itself.

Must agree with skrao7 here re: the automatic light dimmer not being sufficient for me either.

Screen Filter is on almost all the time on my phone and besides allowing a much softer lighting for night use, I also use it to tweak my display brightness during the day to a degree that the automatic (or even manual) settings don't allow.

Oh, and +1 for the undisturbed wife bit.

+1,This is one of my favorite apps too for night time use. I was thinking about rooting my phone so I could have more control over the brightness of the phone but this app filled the bill. I might add that there are some good apps for sleeping. "Night stand bold" is a good one, as it mutes notifications as well and still allows you hear your alarm. I know that there are paid apps that allow you to white list certain numbers so that they can be heard.

I found this app and thought I would give it a try. It has additional settings that screen filter does not. It also claims to save battery life.(No root required)
