Moto Phone Portal @192.168.16.2:8080

Sooo when you connect your phone to your pc it gives you the option to enter on your PC what's called Motorola Phone Portal.

So you type 192.168.16.2:8080 into your browser and the splash screen comes up. Inside you can do everything from text people to look up contacts and change ringtones or check on battery life or memory usage.

What I found really odd though is Firefox is the browser used in the Atrix's Webtop. But when I log into the MPP (Motorola Phone Portal) using Firefox as my browser and attempt to go to "File Manager" it gives me the error shown below. Says I must use Internet Explorer to view file manager. When I attempt to open MPP in IE it spits this out at me. IE is up to date, my Atrix on the other hand not so sure.. =/

What's the Phone Portal? Is it an easier way to customize?

192.168.16.2 is an IP address on a private LAN. Your LAN addresses may be different. There are IP id apps in the market. Try using the IP assigned to your phone with :8080.

Did you try it in Chrome? That's now my browser of choice and, frankly, I'm baffled that Chrome isn't the default webtop browser.

I have just jumped onto the chrome ship and am loving it. I was a firefox user and then decided to try chrome(even though I dl'd and installed it over 6 months ago) and am loving the simplistic look with the small features I was missing in my firefox browser. And yes I agree about firefox being chosen to run in webtop instead of chrome.

I've had Chrome installed for a long time, but only recently did I make the switch now that they have full extension support - plus some of the apps available are downright awesome with plenty of potential. Plus Xmarks let me keep all my bookmarks synced between all PC's and, now, my Google account.

And I believe there is an IE Tab extension now that would allow you to run those archaic websites that are IE-supported-only right in Chrome.

When you plug your phone into the USB port a new notification pops up that gives you the IP address to use for the Motorola Phone Portal. Basically it looks like the MPP is a variant of the Webtop.

No it doesn't work in Chrome.. I too use Chrome until I have to log into any type of financial account that sends it on the fritz, lol

Agreed about Chrome. It's a good start to a great browser, but it's not perfect yet. There are still quite a few bugs that need to be worked out and there are quite a few plug-in apps that don't support Chrome. I still use Firefox for everything personal and our business uses IE8 as the default.
