    what does H+ mean

Can anyone give me more info on what H+ icon means. I've read somewhere its something to do with at&t. I live in england and am using o2. Should I still be getting the H+ sign? Internet speed is pretty slow aswell.

The H+ means that the network it is on is HSPA+, or what AT&T is currently calling it's "4G". however this isn't even accurate as it doesn't have a symbol for regular HSPA (at least as far as I know).

If memory serves (and this may have been changed with an update) but the H+ was shown for any connection except for edge (E). One of the users on XDA pointed this out after browsing the phone and looking at the various symbols that could be shown.

You are correct there is also E (for edge), but there is also G (for GSM) that has shown up on my phone once or twice.

With an newer pROM like Gingerblur 4.0 or 4.5 your phone can differentiate from a 3G connection and an HSPA+ connection.

Took a while to find this, but here is the XDA material I was talking about. This may only apply to ATT customers and may have been changed with a firmware update, but not sure. I know I personally have not seen anything except E and H+ and have been told that H+ is not yet available here.

    H+ Signal

Just recieved a new ATT Sierra Shockwave 4G and when installed the signal meter showed H+ as the connection speed. What? Hoping for 3G I wondered what in the world this H+ stood for and so after some digging I found this in one of the AT&T documents:

    Table 1. Data connection icons
    Icon Description

G Your smartphone is connected to a GPRS data network.

E Your smartphone is connected to an EDGE data network.

3G Your smartphone is connected to a 3G data network.

H+ Your smartphone is connected to a 4G data network

(Wi-Fi Icon) Your smartphone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

So it looks like H+ is GOOD! And it seems very fast too...
