Yeah it deletes pretty much everything and I think there's an option to erase what's on the SD card as well.
The only thing that may remain are pictures and music but I may be wrong

Yep, Ghost is correct. You have the option to wipe the SD card and internal media storage, but you don't have to. It does wipe all user apps and settings and contacts though, so make sure your contacts are synced to Google.

To re install some of the apps, it is just best to go to a PC and log in to the account on the market there. You can re install what you want faster by going to my apps since the market keeps a record of everything you ever downloaded.

Yep - I just did it and it's a PITA but it will likely cure what ails ya. The app store does NOT remember free apps so write down your favorites. there are a couple of apps that can make backups of your apps data. I used that on a couple of my apps but mostly i figured that was what was causing my troubles to begin with so let 'em go.

If you click on "my library" you will see all the apps you downloaded including the free ones.

It did not show all the free apps I installed. I have yet to figure out why it *did* show some of them but not all. I even crossed the list with the Amazon appstore list to make sure I was not mistaken.

The instructions are to be performed from a PC version of the market which is what I originally posted.
