Unlocking bootloader for 2.3.6 version of Atrix

New to this forum and rooting but I've owned an Atrix for a long time now. Mine has 2.3.6 loaded and unlike most people here I don't need help with rooting; I got that far and verified with an app that I indeed have root access.

My intent is to get the phone unlocked. What i found here nd other forums is the procedure for unlocking the 2.3.4 version and they say the process for 2.3.6 is different. I am very afraid of bricking my device so need help in this from anyone who has unlocked after upgrading to 2.3.6 and tried out custom roms. Some relevant Useful links also welcomed.

I am using an At&T version of Atrix bought in the US, but using in India as it is carrier unlocked to be used with any sim.
    Thnx in advance

Re: Unlocking bootloader for 2.3.6 version of Atrix

Actually unlocking 2.3.6 is exactly the same as 2.3.4. (prior to 2.3.4 was only slightly different.)

The method in the following guide is still the way to go: [TUT]Unlocking Bootloader and Installing Custom ROMs I recently updated the file links, so they should all be working.

I'm new to all this technology and dont know where to begin. I have my phone rooted but have no clue of what I did in. doing so. I entered command prompts and installed root checker and it says I'm rooted. Well I'm wanting to unlock the phone but afraid of bricking it. I have Atrix 4g 2.3.6 and looking for the safest and easiest way of unlocking my phone cause I'm wanting to try different roms for they look really cool. Please help if possible

I'm new and i was wondering if you have to unlock the bootloader before rooting, vice versa, or it dosnt matter

Hello Caveman, welcome to the forum. You do need to address the issue of the bootloader before you try to root the phone and install any custom roms. I'm not a technician, but my understanding is that the bootloaders for Atrix 4G and the most recent Atrix can actually be unlocked, while the Atrix 2 (the middle one) requires you to use a workaround similar to what we did on the Droid X awhile back. It's called Bootstrap and you need to read up on it in the reference area of the forum.

I got my ATRIX MB861 (KOrean Version) for three months now. I really like the phone since its really compact purpose. Although it's just frustrating that this version mostly doesnt play HD Games fr NVidia Tegra app. Does un- rooting will help the games playable to this version? Does generic un-rooting applicable also in this version (MB861)?

I'm not following you on this - is your phone currently rooted, and you want to reverse that and return it to stock? Or are you saying you're currently stock and would like to root it and install custom roms?
