It's almost 99.9% certain that unlocking the bootloader on the Atrix is irreversible. It's believed to actually fry a fuse that is in place solely to meet a security check, thus when it's burned through the bootloader is no longer secure and can be changed at will. It's likely that Motorola never intended for this thing to be unlocked, so they made no plans for it to be re-locked.

Expect that once unlocked your warranty with both AT&T and Motorola is likely voided.

So, be sure you can handle that before proceeding.

Edit: Yep, sorry Shades got it. You can get back to stock software, but the unlock is permanent.

I just successfully followed this guide on my Atrix. There's a couple of notes I would like to add to keep Noobs like me from panicking. When you go through the RDS step, it might say "rebooting device" then get to 100% and tell you to manually reboot the device. After manually rebooting the device nothing happens. If you try to close RDS you get a scary message saying you could damage your phone if you close RDS. After 10 minutes of waiting I did it anyway and attempted the RDS step again. Same thing happened so I moved on with no ill effects. The second thing is installing the CWM recovery image with fastboot. The first time I rebooted into "Android Recover" I got the Droid dude with exclamation mark inside a triangle. I re-installed the CWM recovery image and all went well.

I'm running W7 64bit home and RSDlite 5+ would not install. It would crash giving the error code 2736 then uninstall. The work around for me was to stop when the error message was shown and then to navigate to the directory using windows explorer and running the file. Once you click OK you it will wipe the directory.

Nice work! Quick question, Do I need to flash the pudding sbf if I already unlocked using kennpenn method? I was on stock 1.83 when I unlocked bl. Now I am running his stock rom which is his safest update.

[STOCK ROM] Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread 4.5.91 (Safest Update) - xda-developers

I am having issues with the market apps not downloading or installing and was thinking of flashing back to 1.83 but was unclear if I could use the stock (fear of bricking) or one with pudding + root built in.

I was also thinking of just installing his new alien rom, but I really don't want to do anything else without a little clarification. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

Im a little lost in what you want. But if you are unlocked you no longer need to do pudding. That allows you to unlock. If you used the rom in that link you wont hard brick flashing an older version because it isn't the official update with a new bootloader.

Also if you're planning on flashing a new rom just follow the rom installation section in this tut.

Hoped that cleared some stuff up.

Thanks for the clarification sam! Everything got a little confusing and all the info was bit overwhelming.

I just re-flashed all the img files again and now I am able to download apps from the market.

Glad that worked. What causes the most popular hard brick problem is downgrading from the official gingerbread to an older version that does not contain the new bootloader.

All other custom roms right now have the old bootloader so you can switch between stock froyo and roms.

I have a new at&t Atrix that came with Froyo. I've never rooted or unlocked my bootloader. I updated to Gingebread 2.3.4 through OTA method from my phone (settings>>about phone>>system updates). Is using the method in the original post still the recommended way to unlock my bootloader and install ROMs?
