[How To] Enter Recovery Mode on the Motorola Atrix

Here's a quick guide to enter recovery mode on the Motorola Atrix:

    1. Power off your device.

    2. At the same time, press the volume down button and the power button on the back until you see the text "Fastboot" appear in the top left in corner of the screen.

    3. Use the volume down button to scroll through all the options until you reach "Android Recovery".

    4. Pressing the volume up button will select the option.

    5. You should now see the famous Android Triangle Exclamation screen.

    6. Tap the bottom right hand corner of the screen, just above the search key and that should bring you into the main menu of the system recovery.

The volume buttons will allow you to scroll through these menu items:

    reboot system now
    apply sdcard:update.zip
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition

To select the option, press "OK" in the lower lefthand corner of the screen.

    Hello,

    I tried to choose ( apply sdcard:update.zip)
It didn't work as it says at the end Installation aborted.

As you know I downloaded the ADBrecovery_v6-1, unziped it and copied the files inside it into the sd card and thankfully followed your steps.
I don't know whether this is the last edition of it or maybe this version is an old one?
If it's an old one, could you please tell me were can I get a working one?

    Thanks a lot!

As far as I know there is no way to get ADBrecovery or any other type of custom recovery (Clockwork, etc.) on the Atrix yet. It has not been cracked open that far. Currently we only have root access and a deodexed 'rom' for editing existing files.

I have tried several times to enter Android Recovery but was only successful once. I am trying to use CM7.

I unlocked bootloader, rooted, made a backup from Android Recovery, but now i can no longer enter it. I have tried tapping the screen directly above the search button, and nothing. Any other ways to enter AR, because i still want to load CM7?

I have an app called Quick Boot, which is a free download from the market, installed on all three of my phones. It requires root access, so it's not yet functional on my unrooted Samsung Galaxy S II. What it does is provide you with these options: Reboot, Recovery, Bootloader, Power Off. How does it work? I haven't a clue, I'm not a tech expert - but it most definitely DOES work. I use it to power off, because it circumvents that annoying BEEP when you shut down using the power button. I also like the fact that it quickly reboots into recovery, without playing games with the volume button. I have CWM Recovery version 5.0.2.0 installed via Rom Manager on my Atrix and have never had a problem with it performing it's functions.

It's out there, if anyone cares to try it.

The updated way, with Gingerbread, is to press both volume buttons at the same time. BUT, if you're seeing the Android with the /!\, then Wuchu is correct and you've lost your custom recovery and need to flash it again. The stock recovery you're trying to enter will not get you where you want to be.
