I downloaded that and ran it while trying the adb shell stuff again and it still just sits at the same point.

Is there anything specific I need to do with the terminal on the phone?

Wait okay I typed everything into the terminal instead of my computer's cmd and now it seems that Superuser is installed. Does that mean it worked or is there something I need to do to test it? To be honest I have no idea what to do with a rooted phone. It's just an extra phone I had and I've never done it before so I figured why not learn something new this week?

Congratulations! There are a bunch of root checker apps on the play store that you can check for root with.

Ah yes, looks like it's rooted.

Thank you to you and UltraDroid for the help!

And of course OP for the tutorial.

Lightbulb Error when following this process

After the adb shell command I get and "error: device not found" my phone is plugged into the pc obviously as the commands work up until this one. How can I correct this so it finds the device?

Do you have the correct drivers installed?

I attempted it but a message came up stating newer drivers were already installed? I figured it was okay to proceed. the drivers came directly from the phone.

I seem to remember others having this problem and I can't remember off the top of my head. To be frank it has been a long time since I have done this. You might try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I would read this thread thoroughly and search the problem in this section. I will not be able to take a better look at it until tomorrow or else I might have a better answer for you.
