Which CWM are you using? I ask because the majority of problems that occur seem to stem from poor wiping of previous roms. Personally, I'm using Tenfar's latest CWM and installed Alien without a hitch.

    My method:
    Charge your phone to 100%
Power up in fastboot mode, then use the command fastboot -w
use the command fastboot reboot while holding down volume key and go into recovery mode.
Wipe Davlic cache, wipe battery stats (advanced menu), wipe cache, install zip from sd-ext.
    Reboot
Wait for Alien to start up. Go through the setup process.
Reboot and use CWM to install theme if desired.
Run phone battery until the phone turns itself off, then plug in the wall charger and charge until the indicator tells you you're fully charged.
Boot phone into recovery mode, wipe battery stats, reboot.

You're good to rock and roll with good battery performance.

So it is safe to flash, then, as long as I properly wipe? I am using the one with ROM Manager. Speaking of which, can I update from Froyo to Alien using ROM Manager?

I can't confirm how well it will update using ROM Manager. I can confirm that you can safely install it using Tenfar's latest CWM over Froyo or Gingerbread.

One question... You said rooted, but not unlocked. Is your BL unlocked? That's required for any ROM installation.

Other way 'round - Unlocked, but no root. 1.2.6

Any links to the new CWM?

Rather than Tenfar's ... get RomRacer's CWM. Go to XDA developer's forum and you should find it there. Flash it via Rom Manager and it will install right into RM. Works very well.

And then wipe it and install Alien via RM?

But I am not using any ROMs as of yet - does this still need to be done?

Those are the procedures to install Alien (or whatever custom ROM) assuming that you have an unlocked bootloader and CWM installed. With Rom Manager, you do need to install RomRacer's CWM into Rom Manager. It will take the place of RM's CWM and work well with the Atrix and custom roms.

You don't really need to go into fastboot and wipe, you can do the wipes using CWM and be okay. Wipe before the install of CWM.

Do yourself a favor and read the instructions given by Kenneth on his webpage where you downloaded Alien. Follow his directions and you'll be okay.
