    upgrades

I have an unlocked Atrix I got on ebay from Hong Kong. I'm running Android version 2.2.2 and would like to upgrade to version 2.3. trouble is the only download I can find is for AT&T and I'm on the Bell network in Canada. would I be able to install the AT&T upgrades? I've looked around for non carrier specific upgrades (no idea if there is any such thing) but no luck. thank you!

Welcome to the forum!! Personally, I would unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom. But that is just me.

You might look here if you want to remain stock...I would read around in the Bell section on how to's.

Thank you very much Condor97! I'm pretty new to Android, so rooting is a bit outta my comfort zone, for now anyway! the link in your second post is what I was looking for I'm pretty sure. I didn't buy my ph from Bell and it doesn't have any bell software other that the SIM card of course. will those upgrades still work on my ph? again thank you, looking forward to exploring the site and learning more about my ph!

Anytime! That is a good question, and I can't say I have the answer for you. Maybe someone else does. You have the MB860 I take it? What firmware do you have installed?

with the help of a friend I discovered my phone is actually rooted! so I think I'll be installing Cyanogen soon! as far as my original question I don't think I would have been able to do it. I googled my firmware version (4.2.11MB860.Retail.en.FR) and came across someone with the same firmware asking if he could install AT&T upgrades, and the answer he got was no.

Wesker, if you're rooted and have a custom recovery (like CWM) and a custom rom installed, you really want to stay away from the upgrades issued by Motorola and AT&T. The reason is, even though they probably won't install, if they did, it will play havoc with your phone - at the very least, it would unroot you and prevent you from re-rooting. If you're starting out, you don't need those kind of hassles.

Well, I'm no technician, but I've rooted and modded all of my smart phones up to the last two. I just sort of moved away from the concept of modding your phone because (speaking purely for myself here) it became more of a PITA than it was worth. Also, my most recent phone was a GSM Galaxy Nexus, and I truly enjoy the Pure Google experience of a Nexus phone.

There is nothing wrong with rooting and customizing your phone however - many of our senior members have gotten added value and enjoyment out of rooting, so if in the future you decide to go that route, you'll be in good company.
