Corporate email account corrupted. How can I delete?

My Exchange email was working fine and all of a sudden it started closing as soon as I clicked on the icon. No problem. I'll just delete the account and recreate it fresh.

Problem. The account is 1/2 way deleted. I can't delete it the rest of the way and when I try to recreate it, I'm told the account already exists.

When I go into Accounts I can see the account listed... when I hold down on it until the menu pops up and I select "remove account" nothing happens. If I try to open the account in settings I get a screen that asks for the username (grayed out) and the password above the "delete account" button. Since I can't put the username in, I can't delete this way either.

Is there a way to manually delete the account and start over?

    Thanks.

Yes, thank you... that's when I'm told I can add it because it already exists.

I haven't done that much customizing, so a hard reset may be the best way to fix it, no?

Yeah, that's probably the easiest way to fix the issue.

Should be in Settings/Privacy - Factory Reset

Thank you... will I have to re-root the phone after the hard reset?

Thanks so much for your help. Have you ever seen this before? Only took me 30 hours to mess up the phone and I don't even know what I could have done to do it! :-)

Something else to try before resetting: go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All, tap the email app you're using (whether the built-in email app or otherwise), and click Clear Data.

    YMMV

Next time. :-) Already reset and redownloading apps now. Take 2 Pepsis out of petty cash as a token of my appreciation.
