Help unlocking bootloader
Hi all,
To cut a long story short, a friend and I spent about 3 hours last night trying in vain to Root, unlock BL and install a ROM.
We only managed to Root, and had heaps of problems with the BL. Not sure if this was down to the guide not being accurate, or the phone being a UK version... but we gave up in the end.
Does anyone know where I could find a good guide for the BL unlock on a UK Atrix (2.3.4)?
Also I have been unable to backup my current rom using CW recovery, i just get 'Failed to boot 2' for some reason.
All help, tips and advice gratefully received.
Dave

Davey, is your phone an original Atrix 4G or one of the newer versions? If it's the 4G original, use this:
[TUT]Unlocking Bootloader and Installing Custom ROMs
If it's one of the newer ones, I'm not sure that the bootloader *can* be unlocked. I'm probably wrong on the second point, but then I'm not a Rescue Squad guy, just a moderator.
HTH,

Thanks for the reply, I will check out the link in a min.
Its the 1st Gen Atrix (MB860) but is a replacement to the original one I bought 14 months ago.
I don't know if there were different versions of the Atrix 4G as the production progressed?
I have noticed today that it is also extremely laggy and non responsive, and has had to be rebooted several times this morning in order to get it out of flight mode as the settings refused to work.
It has only been rooted so far, i have not done anything else to it other than backaup apps and data last night.

I'm not sure why my atrix is being so laggy as a result of the root and attempted unlock, but i'm unable to restore it back to factory settings too!
Sorry guys, i know this handset has a lot of loyal followers, but i'm sick of Motorola and the lack of updates, and aggressive lockdowns.
They are nearly as bad as Apple for spoiling good hardware.
Thank god the Galaxy Nexus is on sale over here, It's time to scrape my cash together and buy one.

You're not alone in those sentiments, Davey, believe me. This kind of thing grows tiresome.
I hope you're able to pick up an Nexus and enjoy it!

Davey, both WERA689 and I bought Galaxy Nexus phones a few months back and absolutely LOVE them! It's pure Google with a bootloader that is simplicity itself to unlock (simple Fastboot command), and you get updates first, directly from Nexus. I'm currently running Jelly Bean on my phone. It's a Developers Phone, and Google takes good care of it's owners.
You will not regret buying that phone.

Thanks for the reply guys, i'm glad i'm not alone in my frustration.
I can't believe how useless my handset has become since rooting it. The lag is imply unbearable!
For an exampple of how irritating it is, nearly every other key on the keyboard hangs, and ends up putting numbers or characters into my messages.
I need to factory restore it, but it won't allow me to. It simply deletes all app data/music/photos but keeps the rest and still performs awfully.
Here is a video I took using my Transformer prime to highlight my problem:

Went into a phone shop today to llok at the Galaxy Nexus, but left with a Galaxy S3.
The deal was good and the phone is slightly higher spec, with a JB update coming soon.
Currently setting it up how i like it (not sure about touchwizz yet so may use a launcher) but i can't get over how slick it is.
I probably won't be around here much now I have upgraded as I plan to get rid of the Atrix pretty soon.
I do have a genuine car dock and work and play kit that I will have going spare, so if anyone would like to discuss ownership of said items, please PM me.
Thans to everyone who helped me with the Atrix over the last 14 months, i'd have been stuck on more than one occasion if it wasn't for you guys.
Best wishes..
Davey

Re: Help unlocking bootloader
Congrats, Davey, though I'm sad to see you go. I hope the new phone works out for you.
P.S. Tried to watch the video on my phone and it said it was marked private.
