I know it's gotten better, but was your battery at or near 100% charge when you installed it?

I had been having some pretty serious issues with battery life, including long charging times and inability to achieve a 100% charge no matter how long it sat in the dock. So last night, in desperation, I shut down the phone, pulled the battery and let it sit for about an hour. The phone was quite warm when I started this, btw, and was only showing an 85% charge at the time.

After an hour I reinstalled the battery, and started the phone again. WTF??? Suddenly it's showing 100% charge??? It was only at 85% before! So now, I'm watching carefully to see what changes in apparent battery drain over the course of the next couple of days...should be interesting, to say the least!

EDIT: note that this is not on Gingerblur. I'm running stock and unrooted.

    That sounds like a problem

I get my new battery monday! I hope it's not the phone being stupid, and I just need a new battery.

You can either delete the battery stats in CWM recovery or download Battery Calibration from the market.
Installing ROMs or pseudo ROMs can play tricks with displaying true battery life.

Yup, just where I was going with the percentage question. If you install a new /system (included in a 'ROM' like GBlur), then you're overwriting your battery stats, and if you do this while you're not at full charge then your battery monitor won't display correctly until it either recalibrates itself over time or if you force it as in the post above.

I read something yesterday on XDA about a way to clear or reset battery memory. There is something you do to your phone then you drain the heck out of your battery. I'll look through and see what I can find.
