when will we get real ROMs?

came over from the htc aria and had cm7 and loved it, but came to find out there are only pseudo roms and was told that was because of a locked bootloader. so is there any news as to when we might get a real rom? or are we stuck with pROMs?

This has been the Golden Question since the Atrix was first released. Sadly, there is still no definite answer.

If you need help, and I appear to be offline, shoot me a msg on Gtalk, or PM me and I'll respond as soon as I possibly can!!

Yep, as G said, it's still up in the air at the moment. A small group of devs have come close to bypassing the bootloader, and getting 2nd-init working, but there hasn't been THE major breakthrough yet.

I guess it depends on what you want.

We cannot replace the linux kernel right now, so we can't use cm7 YET. However two items of hope.

    1. We are getting Gingerbread soon, probably this month. That will have the latest kernel, and so maybe we can get cm7 running on top.

    2. Motorola tells us that they will provide bootloader unlocking in late 2011. They confirmed this again yesterday. Once that happens, well get "real" roms

We can pretty easily root, though, in the meantime.

Yes, that's true, but the story going around is that the Gingerbread OTA update will un-root you as well as preventing you from re-rooting immediately after - so you're between a rock and a hard place. I'm not sure that the release of the Gingerbread OTA update will improve our chances of getting real custom roms.

Mike, almost every update breaks root, but the last few times gladroots afterupdate script has worked to restore.Where did you here that it would not work with the gingerbread update (and how would they know?)I believe you but I'm experimenting with ways to prepare and I want to find more technical details. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure kennethpenn on XDA has been working with it. I haven't been able to follow it, but someone said he might have been able to use gladroot.

See this thread - [INFO] Atrix Gingerbread Preview [Update #3 - More Video] - xda-developers - Under the title [INFO] Atrix Gingerbread Preview [Update #3 - More Video

The OP, a guy named Kenneth Penn is talking about the leaked GB update he was provided with and the disturbing fact that when he tried it out, he found that re-rooting was no longer possible.

Also, take a look at this thread - http://androidforums.com/atrix-4g-al...ad-update.html - from Android Forums.
