    Problems upgrading rom

Hey guys first post so I hope you'll be lenient with any misstakes on my part as I didn't really know if this went into the help section or rom section of the forums.

Basically what I've done with my atrix is:

    Unlocked the bootloader
    Installed CWM (latest)
Downloaded Alien v3 and Redpill v3 + the 183 recovery file.

Basically installing as per instructions has resulted in me getting stuck at the booting screen (Red M) and dual core logo.
This happens with both alien and redpill at which point my phone will not charge nor mount if I plug it in to the pc via usv. The only way to recover was to copy 183 on my external sd card via a card reader and then install it via CWM at which point I am able to get past the M screen.

Now I've waited for almost an hour at this screen for both Alien and Redpill as there were some notes about the first boot up being slow, but I'm doubting it took an hour?

    Please help/inform me

    Thanks guys

Have you battery pulled since on the Motorola boot screen? Every now and then it takes infinitely long to boot the first time.

I have much experience with unlocked bootloaders and custom ROMs on the original ATRIX. I will do my best to hold your hand through any problem, small or large, on any phone. Please open up a thread in the help section (or Rescue Squad section if your phone is in dire need) or PM me. I don't bite

Thank you for the swift reply, yes I've tried that. Any other suggestions?

By the way - the infinite first boot, does it occur as mentioned above (at the dual core screen) because while it has been mentioned to be infinitely long I haven't seen a description of what :P

So you installed redpill and then had problems? Try booting into fastboot and using a command prompt on the pc...open the fastboot package (same stuff as unlocking bootloader and cwm installation). Then type:
    fastboot -w
    fastboot reboot

(You may have to use moto-fastboot instead of fastboot..same thing you used for other fastboot steps.)

Well the problem occurs with both custom roms. The only solutions is reverting back to the original 183 (via cwm).
Correct me if I'm wrong but fastboot -w wipes the data right? Does that accomplish anything and if so will it allow me to actually use the roms?

    *Edit

Tried it and still stuck on the same screen

Are you using Rom Manager or Tenfar's CWM?

I do a boot to fastboot, fastboot -w, reboot to android recovery, wipe data, wipe Davlic, clear battery, install from sdcard, wipe davlick, wipe data, boot. I'm frequently installing ROMs and I don't have near the issues that I see others having. Wiping old data is critical to success.

    I'm on Tenfar's CWM

I'm doing basically everything in that boot order too apart from the clear battery part.

Going to retry it one more time and let it stay on for the entire night.

    Just for clarification:
    - How long does it usually take for your first boot?
    - Whilst waiting are you stuck on the "Red M dual core screen?"

Shouldn't take more than 7 or 8 minutes.

I believe those two roms will boot to the M. CherryBlur and Cherry Pi boot to their own loader. Others may also.

You are installing the alien.zip or redpill.zip from the install zip from sdcard option and not the "update from sdcard update.zip", right?

Yes, I go to choose zip from the ext. sd card or something like that after which I pick what zip file to install from and it basically gives me output saying that it's installing. Redpill takes quite a while to install while Alien 3 takes like 20 seconds tops and the theme takes a minute.

I then return to CWM and I do another cache swipe and reboot and I get stuck on the M screen.

Trying again now with cache and data at the end.

On Alien, install the ROM, then boot up and allow the system to set itself properly, THEN power off and install the theme. Do not attempt to install the theme until AFTER booting into the ROM first.

Not sure why RedPill is giving you issues.
