The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - The best and worst of ROMS.

For those that have downloaded and tried ROMS (not themes), what were the best and worst aspects of them?

Any relevant feedback will be added to the OP.

**Note. Everyone's experience is different. Some may have minor issues and others may not. Keep that in mind as you view the PROS and CONS of each ROM.**

EDIT: ADDED REDPILL CM7 BUILD 11/06/2011

    Dorian's RedPill v4

    PROS:

*Stable ROM that provides fast and smooth menu transitions.

    CONS:

    *No reported issues.

    Aura Deblurred

    PROS:

    *excellent battery efficiency
    *fast
    *ext 4 formatting
    *accepts most themes

    CONS:

*Some problems with upgrading using anything other than clean wipes
    *No longer updated

    CyanogenMod7

    PROS:

*Fast, fast and more fast. Makes it VERY efficient
    *Lots of tweak options.
*Unlocks practically instantly with the slider
    *Good battery efficiency
    *Many available themes
    *Cross platform uniformity
    *Disable lock screen completely
*Built in screen capture via power button menu
*Ability to use external sd card as the primary install location for apps

    CONS:

*Requires a separate download of the Google Applications (GAPPS) file in order to have the Android Market, G-Mail, etc etc.
*Some, for some reason, have experienced a white LED flash and a brief lag when dialing a number. It ONLY happens with CM7 and Pure AOSP ROMS.
*The dialer as well as the in-call number pad aren't maximized to fit the atrix screen. (The most recent build has fixed the dialer size, but the in-call is still smaller)
*Doesn't support webtop or fingerprint scanner, yet (support for fingerprint scanner, although different from Moto's use of it)
*Reports of some items returning after being deleted (could be backup related)
*Internal & external sd card confusion

Pure AOSP (Android Open Source Project) via CM7 build

    PROS:

*ROM is essentially the same as CM7 regarding menu speeds, unlock speed and battery consumption.
*Just a 60MB+ download. (Probably the smallest MB ROM out there so far)

    CONS:

*Doesn't have the same tweaks as CM7 (no themes either)
*Requires the Google GAPPS file download.
*The same dialer experience as CM7.
*Doesn't support webtop or fingerprint scanner, just like cm7.

    Dorian's RedPill CM7 Build

    PROS:

    *Fast CM7 based

    CONS:

*Same limitations as other CM7 based roms with respect to Atrix special features

    HomeBase

    PROS:

*Universal ROM that comes in different versions for international builds.
*Faster than most GingerBread ROMs out there.

    CONS:

*Downloading the ORANGE version of HomeBase will be limited to just ORANGE specific themes.
*Any themes REQUIRE a separate run of a CWM download called "Finalizer" to avoid force closures.

    Darkside

    PROS:

    *Fast
*Choice of full Blur or minimal Blur
    *Excellent battery life

    CONS:

*Some reports of battery drain (?)
*Some reports of widgets lost during reboot (?)
*No longer supported or updated (replaced by Nottachtrix)

    Wet Dreams

    Pros:
    *Based on Gingerbread 2.3.6
    *Runs smoothly
    *Themes available
*All features of Atrix supported and work well

    Cons:
*Boot Screen is rather immature (based on name of rom)
*Mixed reports on battery life. My experience (carl_h) shows poorer efficiency than I saw with Darkside. Perhaps fixed in latest version using stock kernel.
*Full Blur version only (currently). Lite version is now available with v 1.3
*Must install Webtop separately, if desired
*No longer supported or updated (replaced by Nottachtrix)

    Neutrino CM7 Rom

    Pros:

    *CM7 based
    *Small footprint
    *Very fast

    Cons:
*same shortcomings as seen with other CM7 roms

    Nottatchtrix

    Pros:
    *based on 2.3.6
    *very stable
    *full blur support
*blur can be eliminated during setup
    *aroma installer

    Cons:
*aroma installer can be confusing at first
*limited support at this point (developer has moved to new phone)

    Jokersax CM-9

    Pros:
    *ICS based
*video drivers limited due to not being released from nVideo yet
    *stable

    Cons:
*still in beta development and changes frequently
*No webtop or other blur features available
*confusion with installing as developer is trying different things, including a kitchen sink approach installer

Note: Please forward any changes to this list to carl_h via PM for inclusion or deletion and it will be added/changed

I looked at HomeBase and it looked interesting, but I was hesitant to try it because (aside from RedPill V4 being very stable and working just fine)... well... I don't know if English is the developer's second language or what, but his posts are sometimes very hard to follow. I'm not comfortable working with something where I can't readily comprehend what the developer is saying and doing. It just seems, I dunno, kinda... messy to me. Maybe that's just all in my head. Good to hear, though, that there aren't hardly any issues with it.

My biggest issue with the developer thread is the MULTITUDE of versions and updates. He flips back and forth on a lot of the links.

    Version 3 update 1.2
    Version 1 update 5.0
    Version X update 2.3.1

^ Those are not real versions by the way, but my point is still valid. I had to read and re-read his OP like 10 times before I finally figured out what to actually download and install.

That's some good feedback Dew. Your info may help others when deciding what to download as well as anticipation of anything negative.

    thanks amigo.

Didn't use RedPill long enough to really form a good base for comments. Alien is a good rom, but is older and no longer supported with upgrades, although it does perform well and is a good replacement for stock GingerBread and Motoblur features, if that is what you desire.

I hear complaints about some of the stock apps for several of the roms, but since I use Kaiten email, TouchPal dialer, Handcent, QuickPic, XScope browser, and Root Explorer, regardless of which rom I am running, I don't see those as rom issues.

That's true. I forgot to mention that CM7 and Pure AOSP doesn't support webtop or the fingerprint scanner. I forgot because I don't use either one of them.

I think i'm going to take everyone's information and add it to the OP as the feedback comes in. That way, I can just sticky this thread. What do you guys think?

Consolidating it may be of use to those considering custom roms. The only thing that I'd consider is to try to keep it as objective as possible rather than anyone's personal quirks or preferences.

(I don't use webtop or FP scanner either, which is why I'm not bothered that CM7 doesn't support it (yet, if ever)).
