Here we go again.Another boot animation, this time for the Alien ROM by kennethpenn at XDA Developers. Given the name of the ROM, another movie-inspired theme seemed to be in order, and what's more appropriate than the classic sci-fi horror movie Alien? No chest-bursters, I promise.
Thanks/Credits
- jimbush3 (XDA Developers) for his stock AT&T 1.83 theme removal tool, which contained the stock AT&T boot animation (from which I snagged the "Motorola Dual Core" image)
- Sony Creative Software, for their Vegas Pro non-linear editor (which has the ability to export video frames as individual image files)
- Adobe Software, for Photoshop Elements (which I'm still struggling to learn; I'd hate to be faced with the full Photoshop!)
- And of course, kennethpenn (XDA Developers), for creating the excellent Alien ROM
Description
As with my other animations, this one is fairly simple: a field of stars appears behind the familiar "Motorola Dual Core" logo, which quickly fades into the logo from the Alien Quadrilogy DVD set, followed by the word "ALIEN" below it. The letters in the word "ALIEN" swiftly appear piece by piece, exactly (and I do mean exactly) the same way it does in the opening credits of Alien. This one took a while to do -- I had to create 12 separate still images, with each one including another piece of the word -- but the results speak for themselves, if I do say so myself.

Installation Requirements
- Root access to your phone
- A file management app with root access (i.e. Root Manager, Super Manager, etc.)
- The boot animation .zip file (see below)
Installation Procedure
The first thing to do is to transfer the .zip file onto your phone. There are many ways to do it, so I'm going to start from the assumption that you've already copied it there. Also, the .zip file must be renamed to bootanimation.zip. This is required, otherwise the animation will not work!
- Open your preferred file management app.
- Navigate to the folder that contains the .zip file. If it's on the internal SD card, start in /mnt/sdcard. If it's on the external SD card, start in /mnt/sdcard-ext.
- Long-press on the bootanimation.zip file and select the Copy option.
- Navigate to the phone's /data/local folder.
- Select the option to Paste the bootanimation.zip file into the folder.
Placing this file into the /data/local folder will override the built-in boot animation. This is usually preferred over other methods that replace the built-in one, as it allows you to change custom animations whenever you like without touching the built-in animation.
Removal Procedure
- Open your preferred file management app.
- Navigate to the phone's /data/local folder.
- Long-press on the .zip filename and select the Delete (or Remove) option.
Once the file is removed, the built-in animation will be used once again.
That's it! Enjoy!

There are two versions of the animation, one with the "Motorola Dual Core" logo and one without it. I created the latter version for users who have replaced the stock boot logo, or just don't want the Motorola logo in the animation.
With Logo - Alien_Boot_Alien_Theme.zip
Without Logo - Alien_Boot_Alien_Theme_No_Moto.zip

The human brain is amazing. It starts as soon as you wake up and stops as soon as you get work.

True! I'd really like to come up with something for The DarkSide, but I'm not sure I could improve on the "orb" animation it already uses (which I think is fantastic; I'd love to be able to come up with things like that!). Just how many custom Atrix ROMs currently exist, anyway? I'd like to cover the entire spectrum, if possible. I'll probably also look at developing variations on my existing ones that don't use the "Motorola Dual Core" logo, for people who have replaced it with custom boot screens.
For now, I think I'm going to concentrate on getting my new site online (Android modding, specifically my own stuff; using WordPress to get it up and maintain it quickly and efficiently) and getting to know Photoshop Elements a lot better so that I'm more proficient in graphics creation and effects. Once I'm there, I'll be able to get really fancy with boot animations, as well as dip my toe into wallpaper and boot screen creation. Right now, I'm basically flying by the seat of my pants.![]()

The theme looks awesome!! Right now I am running the Galaxy Orb Zoom w/o audio alien boot theme but this one looks pretty sweet so I want to try it out. To install I was reading the instructions I do not have to flash the zip thru CWM? I was a little confused because all it says is to move it to my data folder which is empty in my internal sd card. I feel like I am making a big deal out of this install but I dont want to mess up my smoothly running atrix at the moment![]()
hmm ok so where would I find the data folder? I tried astro manager, rom manager and super... dont know which one is best but I could only find the data folder on my internal storage. I know with root access you can search in the system files deeper in the phone but is that where I put the zip?
