Doesn't matter, though, the point is that what used to be Cingular is now AT&T, thus the outcome is still the same: AT&T got larger, another carrier disappeared, and the field of choice and competition got smaller. Some other entity might end up buying T-Mobile (Sprint, probably), but with a $4 billion infusion of cash from AT&T as part of the terms of the deal falling through, that probably won't happen for some time yet.
But Martin, Sprint is the other CDMA company. How would you combine a GSM company (T-Mobile) with something like that? Turn Sprint into a GSM company - which would be a good thing - or turn the T-Mobile customers into CDMA people, which would be a sad day for them.

What is an iden network? I've never heard of that. Were the former Nextel users forced to become CDMA people?

Iden is the network that the direct connect functions on. They added some phones that function on sprints cdma network but no integration. They are shutting down the iden network either end of 2012 or 2013
